Uber Driver Makes 400-Mile Round Trip To Take Pair of Stranded Sisters To See 100-Year-Old Aunt
Traveling long distances can put you in all sorts of predicaments. Weather can get in the way, not to mention traffic and many other unforeseen circumstances.
A pair of sisters from San Antonio, Texas, found themselves in one such situation. When they headed north to Minnesota, they had no idea their connecting flight in Minneapolis would take a detour.
Rather than landing at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, stormy weather sent their flight to Madison, Wisconsin, KARE reported.
Because of the change in plans, Kerry Maggard and Deb Eggers missed their connecting flight in Minneapolis.
If this had been any other trip, the sisters might have been able to wait to board a new flight. Because they were headed to their Aunt Ann Stueven’s 100th birthday party, however, Maggard and Eggers needed a Plan B.
“We were really scrambling at that point,” Maggard shared with CNN. With no rental cars available and flights that would have worked for them sold out, there was only one more thing they could try.
Uber is generally a pretty easy way to travel from the airport to your desired destination, but that destination is usually a hotel or home within a reasonable distance.
Still, the sisters had to try. They requested an Uber to take them to Edgerton, Minnesota, where the party was being held — around 200 miles from where they were stranded.
“I was shocked that anyone picked it up,” Maggard told CNN. “It was kind of a last resort to see if anyone would consider it. It was picked up immediately and of course I got the message on the phone which said ‘Jesus is 7 minutes away,’ which was quite a shock.”
Jesus Florentino has been an Uber driver for nearly three years and has driven over 6,000 customers during that time.
“I feel that they need to be attending the birthday and I enjoy driving, so yeah, it worked out well,” Florentino explained to CNN. “It’s an important occasion, and if I was in their place I would appreciate very much someone bringing me there when there was no other way.”
When your Aunt turns 100, weather causes you to miss the connecting flight, and no rental cars in entire city of Minneapolis…you get creative! The sisters chatted in the backseat while Florentino listened to music and took in the scenery. The drive to Edgerton took four hours, making the round trip 8 hours for Florentino.
“He was just a true answer to prayers that day and just the sweetest man,” Maggard told KARE. The trip cost her just over $216 and she added about a $54 tip on top of that.
Florentino made it home safe and sound, and Maggard and Eggers made it to their destination. Though the party was over, their aunt and family were still there and so the celebrations continued.
Not many people would have done what Florentino did. He was a true godsend to these two sisters and their family.
