Vet Says To Euthanize Abandoned Dog. Rescuer Transforms Him into 'Teddy Bear' 3 Months Later
“Adopt, don’t shop.” If you’re a dedicated animal lover, you’ve probably heard this common refrain from shelters and rescue organizations across the country.
As with any edict, the words themselves might prompt us to ponder momentarily. But they don’t truly hit home until we witness the plight of a homeless animal firsthand.
A YouTube user named Andrea recently shared one particularly harrowing tale, in hopes that others will understand the horrific pain these forgotten creatures often endure.
Her video, which has received worldwide attention, recounts the amazing story of a four-legged fighter named Benji.
Andrea originally discovered Benji as he cowered alone on the side of a roadway. He was emaciated, covered in open sores, terribly smelly, shaking from malnutrition, and practically hairless from a pervasive skin infection.
Benji’s ears were also crusted and scabbed, from what may have been a sarcoptic mange infestation. Andrea said that the vet she consulted recommended putting the little dog down because he was in such horrific condition.
But Andrea herself had other plans to end her new companion’s suffering. She decided to care for Benji herself.
According to the original video footage Andrea posted on YouTube, this was certainly no easy undertaking. The arduous task involved doctor-administered antibiotic injections, regular baths, and round-the-clock TLC.
Andrea also slathered Benji’s tiny body in virgin coconut oil, every single day. This particular substance is rich in medium-chain fatty acids, which have been shown to provide various antimicrobial and antifungal benefits.
With regular attention and a nourishing diet, Benji recuperated surprisingly fast. His tail began wagging eagerly — and within three months, he’d become a fluffy and bright-eyed teddy bear of a pup.
These days, Benji’s awesome new life includes napping on his comfy dog bed, playing around the house, and enjoying regular romps across the beach.
Andrea has shared stunning before-and-after photos, and the transformation is truly unbelievable.
Stories like this make it abundantly clear that rescuing a pet is a bona fide labor of love. So next time you consider welcoming a furry friend into your family, remember Benji — the unofficial yet adorable “adopt, don’t shop” poster boy.
