Violinist's Moving National Anthem Performance Wows at State Capitol
The rich, warm sound of a solo violinist playing the national anthem is enough to give anybody chills, especially when the performance is live, allowing the familiar melodic lines to pierce your heart.
John Uzodinma, a violinist from Mississippi, eats, breathes and sleeps violin.
Uzodinma graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a violin performance degree and now has moved on to graduate school at Louisiana State University, according to his Facebook page.
“Music fills my soul,” the musician wrote on his Twitter account. “I live and breathe it!!!”
On March 19, Uzodinma was invited to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” for the Mississippi House of Representatives, and he certainly delivered.
Playing eloquently from the heart, Uzodinma captivated his audience as he played the familiar song with his own personal style shining through.
State Rep. Missy McGee was particularly impressed with the performance and posted a video to her Facebook page.
“What a great way to start the day!” McGee wrote.
“John Uzodinma, a violinist who is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, opened today’s proceedings of the Mississippi House of Representatives with our National Anthem. Do yourself a favor and listen! It will make you so proud to be an American!”
Uzodinma’s performance has gone viral, being shown on various social media outlets and viewed nearly 1.5 million times.
The violinist has graciously accepted the praise thrown his way, thankful for the opportunity to perform.
“WOW! It was such an honor to open with the National Anthem at today’s proceedings of the Mississippi House of Representatives!” Uzodinma wrote on his personal Facebook page. “To God Be the Glory!”
The violin performance world is a competitive one, with many well-trained musicians all vying for a few coveted, paid jobs within a professional orchestra or ensemble.
No doubt Uzodinma appreciates his newfound fame, which may lead to more paid gigs and opportunities as he pursues his graduate degree.
Congratulations to Uzodinma for representing America with a version of the national anthem played with such pride, poise and heart.
