You Want Them, You House Them: Italian Deputy PM Blasts Hollywood Immigration Hypocrites

Share

When it comes to illegal immigration, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini feels the same way as many Americans.

According to The Independent, in response to actor Richard Gere saying that North African migrants should be permitted into Europe, Salvini said: “Given that this generous millionaire is voicing concern for the fate of the Open Arms migrants, we thank him: he can take back to Hollywood, on his private plane, all the people aboard and support them in his villas. Thank you Richard!”

Salvini, who also serves as Italy’s interior minister, took issue with remarks Gere made from the Mediterranean Sea, where he was delivering food and water to stranded refugees, The Independent reported.

Gere, as is the case with many Hollywood stars who are used to performing like drama queens, said politics must be pushed aside and that “demonizing people has to stop everywhere on the planet, and it will stop if we say stop.”

Video footage of Gere helping bring supplies to migrants can be seen below:

Leftist celebrities tend to think they’re more virtuous just because they believe in open borders and want to let fleeing migrants into Europe and the U.S.

On the surface, their elitist comments sound caring and morally superior — but Gere’s remarks prove shallow because he’s conveniently forgetting (selective memory?) or ignoring key life-or-death considerations.

Above all, where exactly would these immigrants stay? Who will pay for their needs and take care of them, until they find jobs, move into their own homes and stand on their own feet?

Do you agree with Matteo Salvini's comments?

It’s one thing for leftists to volunteer along borders or aboard boats — it’s good publicity for celebrities to distribute food, medicine and bottled water — but then what?

If, as Gere suggests, Salvini should welcome all North African refugees to reside in Italy — where does the actor propose they’ll be able to reside? Who’s going to be sure the immigrants are properly fed and sheltered?

Salvini’s remarks, singed with the necessary sarcasm, are spot-on in calling for wealthy A-listers to practice what they screech.

I can’t help but wonder how many illegal immigrants Gere and John Legend have welcomed into their mansions.

Perhaps instead of referring to President Donald Trump as “racist” for protecting our southern border, Legend ought to allow refugees to live for free at one of his guest houses or beach bungalows.

Wealthy celebrities like Gere tend to say or tweet political statements without thinking them through. Good for Salvini for sticking to Italy’s policies and calling out another member of Hollywood’s hypocritical elite.

By now in the endless debate about open borders and illegal immigrants, a loss of perspective has entered the picture. Let’s see Richard Gere worm his way out of this one.
