Watch: Andrew Luck throws football in public for first time in 8 months
The calendar may have read June 12, but make no mistake about it: Tuesday was Christmas in Indianapolis.
Colts fans received an unexpected gift, one they hope will keep on giving for the rest of the year.
Andrew Luck has thrown a football.
For a three-time Pro Bowl quarterback, simply completing a few passes in a minicamp might not seem like a big deal.
But the last time Luck did so in practice was last October and in a game was New Year’s Day of 2017.
So you can excuse the Indy faithful for being a little bit over the top when they saw this Tuesday:

Keep in mind, these were high school footballs, smaller than the NFL model, but for the face of the franchise it was significant progress.
“I’ve thrown a real football, ‘the Duke,’ whatever you want to call it,” he told reporters after practice. “I’ve picked it up and I’ve thrown it and it felt great, and honestly there was a little mental block and I had to do it, sort of by myself.”
Now wait a second.
Just last week, new Colts head coach Frank Reich said Luck hadn’t graduated to throwing footballs yet.
A little fib?
“I made him swear to me that he wasn’t allowed to tell anyone else about it,” Luck said. “It was my story to tell. Don’t give him a hard time about it.”
Luck also uttered four words that Colts fans (and players, and team executives) have waited to hear.
"The pain is gone."

That’s right, “The pain is gone.”
And of course the best Luck parody account had to send out a tweet.
Dearest mother —
I write with exuberance. Today, for the first time after many sunrises, I fired my sidearm in full view of onlookers. It was a sight, I admit. Some were startled. The unit has a grueling campaign that inches closer daily. I shall be ready. I love you.

Whether you’re a fan of the Colts or just the NFL, it’s good to see one of the game’s best seemingly heading in the right direction.
