Watch: AOC Just Accidentally Made the Perfect Case for Investigating Hillary Clinton

Share

The latest outrage of the week in the left’s interminable effort to “get” President Donald Trump in some form or fashion stems from reports about inconsistencies and potential wrongdoing in the form of undeserved security clearances and questionably secure communications by some members of the Trump administration.

A whistleblower recently came forward to allege to Congress that the White House had overridden without explanation as many as 25 security clearance denials. At the same time, there have been reports that some members of the administration had been using online messaging apps to discuss official government business, potentially even on issues of national security and foreign policies.

While those allegations of wrongdoing are most likely overblown — as is most of what the anti-Trump left seize on — they are nevertheless still worth a close look and investigation, if only to ensure that everything is truly on the up-and-up and classified information is being properly protected.

The Democrat-controlled House Oversight and Reform Committee is indeed looking into those matters. However, in her zeal to lambast the Trump administration during a recent hearing, Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez actually ended up making the perfect case for why failed 2016 candidate and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton is still very much deserving of a full investigation into her own unsecured communications issues.

Ocasio-Cortez began by stressing the importance of “what is at stake here,” in terms of matters of great importance to the government being discussed in potentially unsecure venues like social media messaging apps.

“Folks are suggesting that we are conducting foreign relations with folks with security clearances via WhatsApp,” she said. “I mean, every day that we go on without getting to the bottom of this matter is a day that we are putting hundreds, if not potentially thousands of Americans at risk.”

“I mean, really, what is next, putting nuclear codes in Instagram DMs? This is ridiculous,” the congresswoman continued. “We need to get to the bottom of this, and in order to do that, we have to issue subpoenas because the people in this administration are not cooperating.”

“And every day that there is an insecure line of communication that could be leaked, that could be hacked, that could be screen-shotted — without proper channels — is a day that we are putting our national security at risk,” she added.

Do you still think Hillary Clinton needs to be fully investigated?

While everything that Ocasio-Cortez said there was aimed at the Trump administration, it is undeniably also applicable to Clinton’s private and unsecured email server that she maintained during her tenure as head of the State Department, the classified and sensitive contents of which are strongly suspected of having been hacked and/or leaked and in the possession of rival nations like China, Russia and others.

The congresswoman shifted gears for a moment to focus on the whistleblowers that had come forward, and to her momentary credit, she commended Republican ranking member Jim Jordan for his strong stance on providing protections to whistleblowers, an issue he dealt with extensively while attempting to investigate the prior administration of former President Barack Obama.

While speaking on the committee’s responsibility to protect whistleblowers, Ocasio-Cortez said that protection and deserved respect applied to “those with the courage to come out and say when something is wrong, regardless of the administration, even in prior administrations.”

“It doesn’t matter the party. When something is going wrong in government, when there is overreach, when there is an abuse or a misconduct of process, we have an obligation to see and investigate it out,” she said.

Again, though Ocasio-Cortez no doubt had President Trump and members of his administration in mind, what she said can be directly applied to Hillary Clinton and her private server scandal, which was never truly addressed or investigated in a full manner, but was instead glossed over and dismissed ahead of the 2016 election for partisan political purposes by the Obama administration.

Based solely on these statements from the New York congresswoman, there should be loud demands for a renewed — and this time legitimate — investigation of Clinton, as her insecure communications debacle most certainly posed a dire threat to national security.

As for the allegations against the Trump administration, they deserve to be investigated in a fair and objective manner — an unlikely event, given the rabid anti-Trump nature of House Democrats at the moment — but no more so than the years-old allegations against Clinton and others in the Obama administration. Whether Ocasio-Cortez and the rest apply the same standard to both sides remains to be seen, but we aren’t holding our breath in the meantime.
