Watch: We Have Just Seen the Worst MLB First Pitch of All Time
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes the picture does not tell the whole story.
Take this shot of the ceremonial first pitch at Tuesday’s game between the Kansas City Royals and the White Sox in Chicago.
The photo, taken by White Sox team photographer Darren Georgia, shows what could be a decent toss by the woman who threw out the first pitch.
It was at the moment the photographer knew: He was in trouble.

But then when you look past the photo, you get the rest of the story. Georgia snapped the photo just before the pitch came right at him and hit him.

The pitch was so wayward that it hit his camera just after he snapped that photo. It came out of her hand and went sideways.
There have been a lot of bad ceremonial first pitches in the history of baseball — from 50 Cent to Mariah Carey — but this one might take the cake.
The woman — who works for the White Sox and won the team’s Employee of the Month award — had as good a laugh about it as anyone, as she ran off the mound and hugged Sox pitcher Evan Marshall, who was behind the plate.

But kudos to the photographer who got the shot.
“I honestly didn’t even see it coming,” Georgia told WMAQ-TV in Chicago. “I took the photo and it hit the camera. It didn’t hit my head … the camera is okay, I’m okay, but I was … shocked.”
“I have it just before she released it,” he said. “So I got the photo, still got the shot, the camera’s good, I’m good.”

The White Sox went on to win the game 4-3. Lucas Giolito (7-1) got the win for the Sox. Brad Keller (3-6) took the loss for KC.
Chicago improved to 25-29, while the Royals fell to 18-36.
