Watch: MLB star's brutal double error helps Yankees hit historic mark
The New York Yankees accomplished something that no Yankees team has done since 1998.
The Bronx Bombers won their 14th game in their last 15 with a 5-2 win over the Indians on Saturday.
The last time they had a 14-1 stretch was in 1998, when they won 114 games and captured the World Series title.
This latest win was handed to the Yankees on a silver platter by Cleveland shortstop Francisco Lindor, who made a brutal double error in the bottom of the fifth.
Indians starter Trevor Bauer was cruising along with a perfect game and a 1-0 lead through four innings, thanks to a solo home run by Lindor in the top of the fifth.
But then with one out in the bottom of the fifth, Bauer walked Neil Walker and Miguel Andujar back-to-back to put runners on first and second. After Gleyber Torres singled to break up the no-hitter, Austine Romine walked to score Walker to make it 1-1.
This is the Yankees first 14-1 stretch since June 24-July 12, 1998 and their first with a run differential of at least +58 since July 4-20, 1954 (14-1, +63)

The next batter, Ronald Torreyes, hit a routine grounder to short. It should have been an inning-ending double play, but Lindor bobbled it and had no choice but to throw to third to try and nail Torres.
However, the throw was wide right of third baseman Jose Ramirez and sailed into foul territory.
It was scored a double error on Lindor for the bobble and the errant throw, but the throwing error is questionable. Ramirez should have made more of an attempt to catch the throw, though it appears he was screened by Torres.
The end was result was Andujar scored on the bobble and Torres scored on the throwing error to make it 3-1. After Brett Gardner hit a sacrifice fly to score Romine, the Yankees were up 4-1 on their way to a 5-2 win. Sonny Gray picked up the victory.
Lindor made an error in Friday’s loss that triggered a four-run fourth inning and propelled the Yankees to a 7-6 win. He now has 10 errors on the season.
“Both these games have been lost because of me,” said Lindor, reported the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “That’s unacceptable.”

“He knows [he should have held the ball]. He was just trying to make a play,” Indians manager Terry Francona said of Lindor, according to the Plain Dealer.
The Yankees are now 23-10, one game behind the Red Sox in the AL East. When this streak began, they were 7.5 games behind Boston.
What’s even more impressive about this run by the Yankees is they’ve beaten good teams, including the Angels, Astros and Indians. On Tuesday, they start a three-game series with the Red Sox.
