Watch: Solider Comes Face to Face with Family After Being Separated 5 Years

Share

Military homecomings are the some of the sweetest. As we look to honor families with members in the service during Military Family Appreciation Month, we’d like to take time to showcase some sweet reunions.

An unsuspecting mother in Conway, South Carolina, received the best surprise of all when her son showed up after 5 years away.

Senior Airman Tywan Lawson had been out of the country during that time, serving in Germany, Turkey, and Africa, WPDE reported.

With the help of Conway Police Department Detective Tyres Nesmith, Lawson was able to pull off a homecoming that left his family screaming for joy.

“I knew that I would have to make it special being that it took as long as it took,” Lawson told WPDE. “I knew I was going to get some type of crazy reaction…” he said of his mother, Nicole Davis, who he says is “Pandora’s Box.”

His hunch was spot on. When Nesmith pulled up in front of Davis’ home, and Lawson stepped out of the vehicle, her excitement can clearly be heard in the background.

Watch as this sweet family reunites for the first time in half a decade. The hugs and joy are enough to give you all the warm fuzzies inside.

The viral video was originally posted to the Conway Police Department’s Facebook page. It has since been removed.

Thankfully the captured reunion has been shared by several pages, allowing us to witness the priceless moment between an airman and his family.

“There he was,” Davis shared with WPDE. “My son was here and I had no idea he was coming… He got me good.”

According to the news outlet, Lawson will be home for a few weeks before settling at a San Antonio Air Force base. He hopes to become and officer and make a military career for himself.

We’d like to take this time to thank Airman Lawson for his service. We’re so glad he was able to spend some time with his family.

And to the other men and women who have served, thank you as well. We wouldn’t be able to enjoy so many freedoms without your sacrifices, hard work, and dedication.
