Watch: Tebow Comes Up with Huge Clutch Play To Propel Team to Victory
The 2019 baseball season hasn’t been a great one for New York Mets minor leaguer Tim Tebow, but he had a shining moment Wednesday.
The former Heisman Trophy-winning Florida Gators quarterback broke out with a huge hit for the Triple-A Syracuse Mets against the Pawtucket Red Sox at NBT Bank Stadium.
Tebow blasted a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning for Syracuse, giving the team a 4-2 lead.
The Mets would protect that lead and go on to win the ballgame 6-3.
In the victory, Tebow went 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs.
Overall, however, he has struggled mightily this season.
Through 59 games played, Tebow has hit .153 with one home run, 16 RBIs, a .236 on-base percentage and a .450 OPS. He is second-worst on the team in strikeouts with 75.
Last season went far better for Tebow when he was with the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
The southpaw hit .273 with six home runs, 36 RBIs, a .336 on-base percentage and a .736 OPS in 84 games played.
However, Tebow broke his hand in July and missed the rest of the season.
He has been playing better of late. In his past five games, Tebow has collected three hits in nine at-bats (.333 batting average). However, he has been reduced to a bench role as a result of his early struggles.
Although this season is not going well for Tebow, he continues trying to help his team win ballgames.

What Tebow is trying to do right now is not easy. Before starting his pro baseball career in 2017, he had not played the sport competitively since his junior year of high school (2005), according to Fox Sports.
Very few players could jump into baseball after 12 years away from the sport and compete at any professional level. Even if Tebow never makes it to the big leagues, that in of itself is an impressive feat.
