Watch: Trick shot putt defies physics and goes in, steals the show
Few events in golf are more prestigious and well-known than the Masters.
Capitalizing on that popularity, golf officials have turned the days before the tournament into something of a week-long event.
There was big news on Wednesday that the Masters festivities would start including an amateur female tournament on the Saturday before the 2019 tournament, per CBS Sports.
“We believe this event will have a long-lasting impact on the game,” said Augusta National Golf Club chairman Fred Ridley. “I think focusing on amateur golf is consistent with our history, with our founder, our co-founder, Bobby Jones.”
“We also feel that is the way that we can make the greatest impact in growing the game, and in this particular instance the women’s game. So we thought that was the better way to go (than a men’s amateur) and the better use of our resources. But having said that, I think over time that this will also be of great benefit to the women’s professional game as well.”
There’s also the fact that patrons of the Masters festivities can enjoy what’s arguably the best concession value in all of sports.

Fans can easily purcahse two sandwiches, two beers and a medley of snacks for less than $20.
But for fans who truly want to enjoy some golf before the actual tournament starts, few events are more palate-pleasing than the Masters Par-3 Contest.
Even for non-golf fans, who should take note that a par-3 is the shortest possible hole at a golf course, the thrill of holes-in-one and trick shots are enough to grab attention.
Case in point, Bubba Watson turned what should have been an easy and uneventful putt on the 7th hole into something mind-boggling.

That’s Watson taking the toe of his wedge and hitting the ball about 20 feet past the hole. Once the ball catches the ridge, however, it eventually rolls back into the hole. It’s an unnecessarily circuitous way of draining a short putt, but it’s entertaining nonetheless.
Despite the fact that some golfers don’t even bother to keep an official “score” for the Par-3 Contest, that doesn’t mean the event can’t have its more serious moments.

The actual Masters tournament begins Thursday and runs through Sunday.
