Widow Can't Afford To Buy Groceries, But Famous Rapper Ludacris Happened To Be in Line

Rappers don’t often win points for gallantry. Indeed, ask the average consumer what he thinks about these tongue-twisting wordsmiths and he’ll probably think they hate women, love violence or both.

Indeed, sometimes rap’s raucous lyrics have caused more than their fair share of chaos. The Caldwells Patch reported that an 18-year-old student’s rap lyrics caused a SWAT team to descend on James Caldwell High School in Caldwells, New Jersey.

According to Biography.com, Former Fox News pundit Bill O’Reilly once picked a fight with hit rapper Ludacris (aka Christopher Brian Bridges) over the content of his songs. But I bet O’Reilly never guessed that Ludacris had a charitable side.

Our story begins with an Atlanta-area woman named Therra Jaramillo. Global News reported that Jaramillo had fallen on hard times.

Her husband had passed away from brain cancer, a truly terrible disease. What’s more, Jaramillo was low on cash because a client hadn’t yet mailed a promised check.

“I ran into a financial hit of almost $4,000 within one month when I had to get a new water heater ($2,000) and I didn’t get a freelance writing check I was owed,” she explained on Facebook. “I got a delay and then another and a bit of a runaround from the company as to why I wasn’t getting paid.

“Thankfully an ultra-savvy editor had my back and championed me and is trying to fix it, but my budget simply will not hold under that huge a hit.” Fortunately, a friend had kindly given Jaramillo a $250 gift card to Whole Foods, and that largess thrilled her.

“I went to a Whole Foods across town with a dream of hummus and fresh food. Real dog food for the pups,” she wrote. “Maybe a pizza with roasted exotic toppings.

“Holy (expletive), Facebookies I wanted to eat like a piranha dropped into a pool party in Vegas.” Yet when Jaramillo got to the checkout line, she made a horrible discovery: She’d purchased more food than her gift card would allow.

That was when the stranger behind her in line stepped in and softly said, “I got this.” In shock, Jaramillo turned around to see who he was.

She later said, “I stared wide-eyed at this handsome young African-American man, this stranger, as if he’d just dropped through the ceiling like a black James Bond, like a Batman, like the Black Panther. Then I started to cry.”

When Jaramillo asked for his name, he simply introduced himself as Chris. Then he proceeded to pay for all of her groceries — all of them.

Now with a cart full of groceries and an untouched gift card, the beleaguered writer watched him leave. Then the cashier said, “You know that’s Ludacris, right?”

That isn’t the first time the rapper has helped someone in need. A decade ago, he founded the Ludacris Foundation, which aids at-risk youth.

“What Ludacris had no way of knowing is that I’m Hurricane Katrina survivor and I lost my mother because of that unnatural disaster,” Jaramillo wrote. “What Ludacris had no way of knowing is that his quiet kindness and generous gesture came at a moment when my candle was out.

“He used his personal light to fire up my own. Isn’t that what we should be doing for each other?” Indeed, it most certainly is.
