Woman Sends Text to Wrong Number, Turns into Viral Movement for 6-Year-Old with Leukemia
The power of social media is a force unlike any other, and it has the opportunity to make changes for worse or for better.
With more and more videos and posts going viral to raise awareness of national issues and local campaigns alike, it is easy to see how things on the internet can expand beyond perceivable boundaries.
This is exactly what happened with one text exchange that just started as an accident.
A woman named Syd was trying on an evening gown and accidentally sent pictures to a wrong number asking to get an opinion on her dress.
Tony Wood, a father of six from Missouri, received the message and decided against replying with a simple “wrong number.”
“I believe this message was intended for someone else,” he wrote. “My wife isn’t home, so I couldn’t get her opinion, but the kids and I think you look stunning in your dress! You should definitely go with that one!”
Wood attached a picture of five of his kids giving a thumbs up to his kindhearted message.
Twitter user Mandi Miller shared screenshots of the exchange and they have since gone viral.
Currently, the post has over 700,450 likes and 176,724 retweets.
But this viral post has since changed this family’s life in ways they couldn’t have imagined.
Wood’s wife was not at home to offer fashion advice because she was at the hospital with their six-year-old son who is battling leukemia.
“The most important thing about Kaizler is that he holds a special place in the hearts of so many. Especially in the hearts of his family,” the GoFundMe page reads.
“It’s impossible to meet him without falling in love with this awesome little man!”
Within the viral Twitter post, someone posted a link to the GoFundMe page the family is using to raise money for cancer treatments and the power of the internet took over.
The $10,000 goal of the campaign has been blown out of the water by raising over $44,000 in donations from strangers across the globe.
Wood thanked people for their donations in his own Twitter post.
“The kindness and generosity of Twitter and other venues saw our gofundme account surpass our goal last night! I can’t begin to thank everyone enough!
This is a major hour of need for us and this blessing will help more than you know! God Bless all of you!”
This just goes to show that taking the time to spread kindness to strangers will pay off in the end.
