Working Mother Seeks Help Potty Training Toddler. Immediately Gets Shamed for Asking
Most parents look forward to the successful results of potty training. The actual process of potty training is less eagerly anticipated.
Some children catch on quickly while others require a lot of patience and time before they are out of diapers. Learning to use the toilet is one of the first major milestones toward independence that young children achieve.
While it can be an exciting time, it’s also a sensitive time. Parents and children alike often feel the pressure of outside influences deeming what is or is not appropriate regarding potty training, including age and method.
One mother in Surrey, England experienced this pressure to have her 3-year-old daughter potty trained. She turned to Childcare.co.uk to search for a “Potty Trainer.”
The 3-year-old’s parents had been unsuccessful in their own attempts. Her mother believed the lack of time they felt they could devote to potty training because of demanding jobs was to blame.
The post explained, “We are very conscious that our daughter should be using a toilet by now, and with the in laws coming over for Christmas, I am desperate to get her fully using the toilet by the 23rd December. We already have a housekeeper who takes care of our daughter day to day, but we would like someone to solely concentrate on getting her using the toilet!”
This mother seemed to imply she’s been on the receiving end of judgment about her daughter still being in diapers.
Because of this post, she has also received harsh criticism for seeking out paid help to get her daughter to use the toilet independently.
Sorry, a bit behind…
Re potty training – of course it’s lazy parenting. It’s not rocket science. Any parent panicking cos their child isn’t out of nappies before starting school only have themselves to blame, shouldn’t have left it so late ?. #ThisMorning

The family was willing to pay the professional potty trainer £50 per hour. That’s approximately $70 per hour!
Nobody can complain that the parents were not willing to fairly compensate for the requested services. Plenty of people shamed these parents for asking for the help, however.
“She can’t spare 10 hours a week to sit with her daughter to teach her something she desperately needs to learn because she’s three now and can’t use the potty. It’s so selfish,” one critic stated during her appearance on “This Morning” where the post was discussed.
Just like the varying opinions on how and when to potty train, this mother’s post was met with diverse opinions and downright shaming comments. Even if you don’t agree with her approach to hire a professional coach to potty train her daughter, we are thankful parents have the opportunity to seek out help, regardless of others’ opinions on whether or not that help is truly needed.
