Amazon Prime's 'Ricky Stanicky' Film Starring Zac Efron And John Cena Delivers Hilarious Chaos
Amazon Prime’s upcoming feature film “Ricky Stanicky” is going live stream on Thursday starring Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, Jermaine Fowler, and John Cena.
The film is produced by both Amazon MGM Studios that tells the story of three childhood friends, Dean, JT, and Wes using a non-existent friend, Rick Stanicky, as an alibi to buy out of their immature behavior since their childhood days.
That immaturity carries into their adulthood as the childhood friends’ figure that their spouses and partners get suspicious and demand to meet the real Ricky.
The trio (Dean, JT, & Wes) decide to hire an impersonator, “Rock Hard” Rod (Cena), as bringing Ricky Stanicky to life. Rod later embraces his role of Ricky as he takes it too far, the trio begin to realize the mistake they’ve made bring the non-imaginary friend into existence as a consequence of their bogus stories.
“Everyone’s favorite phone-a-friend, Ricky Stanicky! Call up now,” said Cena on X, formerly known as Twitter, presenting his role.
“Ricky Stanicky” was directed by Peter Farrelly and produced by Paul Currie, Thorsten Schumacher, John Jacobs, and Michael De Luca. The cast also featured William H. Macy, Lex Scott Davis, Anja Savcic, and Jeff Ross.
Farrelly pointed out that there hasn’t been a lot of R-rated comedies where his success came from his directorial debut from “There’s Something About Mary” starring Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz.
“People are scared to do comedy,” said Farrelly about directing the film. “We were lucky because there hadn’t been a lot of R-rated comedies in quite a few years. Most of them were PG-13.”
For Efron, this is one of few comedy films with other prominent actors since “Dirty Grandpa” (2016) with Robert DeNiro.
“He cuts through all the pipes and he’s just a great partner to work with. He always tells you honestly how he’s feeling and keeps you on track. I think that’s what I value,” said Efron about his role in the film. “There’s a lot of hilarious circumstances that the characters encounter over the course of the film, but it stays rooted in heart and love. And I think that’s just Pete.”
Both Cena and Efron emphasized excitement for the film that is about to be released that it’ll be hard not to laugh at the film.
The film explores the meaning of accountability and what keeps lifelong friendships together, but yet creates hysterical and consequential memories.
