Middleweight Fighter Kyrone Davis Seeks Breakthrough Win Against Undefeated Elijah Garcia
LAS VEGAS — Kyrone Davis, a middleweight fighter, claims that every stage of his career has prepared him for this bout, which he believes will be his greatest triumph to yet.
On Saturday, March 30, from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the main event of the Amazon Prime prelims on the Keith Thurman-Tim Tszyu PPV bill should, at the absolute least, be a tough test for undefeated Elijah Garcia.
But rather than seeing himself as merely a formidable opponent for another fighter, Davis sees all of the difficulties he has encountered thus far as stepping stones to something greater.
Davis (18-3-1, 6 KOs) has spent a large portion of his career as somewhat of a lucky charm. After former champion Jose Uzcategui tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs, he fought David Benavidez on short notice and lost by stoppage. He and Anthony Dirrell drew. The 29-year-old native of Delaware will start as the underdog against Garcia (16-0, 13 KOs) this coming weekend.
“I think all of my fights, every situation I have been in – the fights on short notice, the big names, the 50-50 fights, the big stages. I have been on them. [This is the next step] to getting to where I want to be, which is a world title [shot],” said Davis in media reports.
Davis hasn’t faced all hardship, though. With 18 victories (including a surprise victory over the previously unbeaten Marcos Hernandez), a renowned trainer in Stephen “Breadman” Edwards at his side, and Saturday’s chance to upset a highly sought-after prospect, Davis remains optimistic about his career’s future.
“I think all of those [fights] accumulated together has gained me the experience to fight a fight like this and be calm, and understand the magnitude of the fight but not let it get to my head. Knowing how to prep, and what my body needs to perform at the best level,” said Davis in media reports.
All four of the major sanctioning bodies have Garcia, 20, ranked highly, whereas Davis is not listed in any of the rankings. He is fighting for what Garcia has, unfazed. “Every fight, has prepared me for this moment,” he added.
